On Saturday, February 1st, 2025, Düsseldorf shook with excitement as OKTAGON MMA planted its flag in this city and presented a thrilling tournament that changed the lives of many fighters. The anticipated 1st round of the European MMA Middleweight Champions League drew a crowd that didn't let up for a moment.
What was that all about?
In the main bout of the evening, OKTAGON middleweight champion Kerim Engizek, who triumphed over Patrik Kinzel in October at the biggest MMA tournament in history, took on Germany. This time he faced the renowned Polish Kamil Oniszczuk, whose devastating kicks promised a thrilling spectacle on the way to the quarterfinals.
After a year, popular Czech goal scorer Matěj Peňáz finally entered the cage and met David Zawada. Known for his unbeatability, Peňáz faced Zawada, whose goal was to return the Zawada family to the top of European MMA, following the example of his legendary brother.
Tipsport Gamechanger reserve bout pitted elite Iranian wrestler Khajevand against Rayomba, who had 5 1st round wins to his name.
Outside of the main tournament, the spectators were looking forward to the fight of Eskiev, who was in great shape and in the previous fight knocked out Buchinger in the 1st round. This time the champion of 5 different organizations, Wanderley Junior, came for the valuable scalp.
A promising battle between Lengal and Ilbay brought tension as both fought hard for the win.
Another interesting fight was put on by the OKTAGON Underground King Rooster, who wanted to take on Akip and put on a spectacular show.
And what else but a proper emotional hell could have been registered in the fight between Elias and Zoran Solaj, in which Elias promised to totally "smash" his opponent.
At the end, Tameran Dulatov, Smajic, Emir-Can Al and Slovakian talent Kováč were also present, contributing to the spectacular atmosphere of the evening.
